Since becoming a GOOD NEWS ASSOCIATE, Lon has written six books. Two of these have been collaborative projects in which he has provided empowerment to Christian leaders from developing countries by helping them tell their stories. See details about these books below.

Lon has five years experience as the editor of a national Christian publication, The Evangelical Friend. His articles have been published in Christianity Today, The Oregon Historical Quarterly, Eternity, and The Christian Leader. He is available to assist with writing projects for organizations and for co-authoring books.

Unlocking Horns: Forgiveness and Reconciliation in Burundi was written with David Niyonzima, a peacemaker and church leader in Burundi. It describes David’s victory over hatred for those who killed his students and his relatives. He learned the healing power of forgiveness and continues to be a leader for peace and reconciliation in Burundi.

At Home With The Poor: Christian Community Development In Haiti was co-authored with Jean Thomas, a Haitian protege of Jean Perkins. It tells how Jean and Joy Thomas and their family have brought hope and change through Jesus’ love to a rural community in Haiti by being truly at home there.

Citizenship: A Christian Calling explores what it means to be obedient followers of Christ in government and politics. It features quotes from former Senator Mark Hatfield and William Wilberforce. Its chapters include Biblical accounts of Bibilical personalities, whose lives teach us about citizenship and contemporary individuals who have been faithful citizens.

To Live Free, William Wilberforce: Experiencing the Man, The Mission, and the Legacy. This accessible biography of Wilberforce shows readers what dedication to God and His Word can accomplish, while topically-arranged excerpts from Wilberforce’s Real Christianity will challenge readers in their faith.

Practicing Discernment Together, Finding God’s Way Forward in Decision Making, co-authored with Jan Wood and Bruce Bishop.   A practical guide to leading and participating in the the process of group discernment for churches and Christian organizations.  It is an integration of “theological truths, insights and practical suggestions” that empower groups to seek and find God’s guidance.

Stand Alone or Come Home: Mark Hatfield as an Evangelical and a Progressive. Does the man who stood alone at the 1965 governors’ conference in his opposition to the Vietnam War have something to say today? In Stand Alone or Come Home, Lon Fendall shows how Mark Hatfield’s evangelical faith drove his political convictions.
